Dreams
Dreams can refer to two things. They can be our aspirations and our ambitions in life or could refer to the series of thoughts that we experience during our sleep. Either way, they play a major role in our lives. And today I am intrigued to unfold my thoughts about the latter.
The idea of dreams has always fascinated me. Even though they are just hallucinations in our sleep but they let you escape to a different world. They somewhat make you believe that in an alternative universe, these dreams may actually be true. Personally, I'm the kind of person who would prefer if someone wishes me "No dreams!" before sleeping rather than "Sweet dreams!". This is mainly because I've struggled with nightmarish dreams for a little too long now. But this fact has never made me any less of an admirer of dreaming because of those rare dreams which add magic and fun to living. And I would love to describe one of these for you.
For instance, this one time I dreamt of living across the street from Tom and Jerry's house from where I could easily catch a glimpse of their trivial yet amusing spats. Soon, I decided to go to the nearest sea coast which was within a walking distance from my house. I owned a private submarine and god knows how but I knew how to drive that thing. I went underwater just to find out that just like Sandy Cheeks from SpongeBob Squarepants, I had my own diving suit and suddenly I am sitting in Krusty Krab, grabbing a bite of SpongeBob's special Krabby Patties along with Squidward Tentacles and Patrick Star. Then, there was a change of scene and now I am strolling down the streets of the Big City with Oswald and Weenie to visit Johnny Snowman's ice-cream shop. I had just ordered Swizzle-Berry-Swirl when I heard my mother say, "Wake up! Everyone's waiting for the breakfast." And that was the end of this beautiful fantasy.
For ages, scientists have been trying to answer the question as to why dreams shape the way they do and they have come up with various notions. Some of them say that dreams may refer to the ambitions that we have been trying to achieve for a long time. For others, dreams are a way of our subconscious mind trying to warn us about the fears and insecurities which we are otherwise experiencing but not acknowledging. Also, dreams can mean different things at different times. Some of them can just be a string of abstract ideas or may refer to something we had been engrossed in before our sleep. For my dream I told you about, I believe the last-mentioned cause might be true because that day, I spent almost five hours watching all my favorite cartoons.
My point here is that dreams can be of different types. They can be scary and absurd sometimes but before we sleep there is the same amount of probability for them to be like a fairy tale or a fanciful notion. For all we know, if I could record and replay my own dreams, I could undoubtedly produce some of the biggest box office hits. So, why not play the odds and keep dreaming?
