A weekend of wearing masks

After staying at home for more than 4 months, we finally planned a short weekend trip to some of our relatives. We anticipated that it would be somewhat different from our earlier trips because of all the coronavirus situations. But it was far from what we had expected it to be like. For starters, we had to wear a mask all the time while sitting in the car as the government had decided to impose a fine on all those who do not. And we were sitting in a car for about 11 hours out of the total 39 hours that we were not at home. So, that black and grey face mask of mine had become a bitter-sweet constant throughout the whole journey. Some of you might be wondering how unsafe it was to go for a cheerful visit to relatives during these times. Hence, let me make the purpose clear. We were never convinced about this idea either but my dad had some official work and emotionally blackmailed us till we changed our opinions. Well, I forgot to mention that we visited Chandigarh which is about a 6 h...

Mirror

"Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" This is the question which the Queen asked to the Magic Mirror, in the "Snow White" fairy tale. Each one of us condemned it as kids. But what happened to it as we grew up?  Most of us today, end up asking this same question to ourselves. The questions like: Would it have been better if I was fairer? Can a girl be beautiful only if she is slim? Would I be loved more if I was taller? Can a boy be handsome only if he has abs? These are some of the most frequent questions that pop into our minds. We try to work upon these things by exercising and dieting to gain an ideal body shape and by trying all those home remedies available on the internet to improve our complexion. We experiment with all sorts of things and wait for results and if the results are not the way we expected, we lose our remaining self-confidence, so much so that we switch on our "self-deprecation" modes. But I would like to ask ...

Little Things

It's always the little things that make you happy. Let's have a look at some of those heart-warming things: The earthy scent fills up the air during rain (you just can't get enough of it). The moment when you realize the online clothes you ordered, fit perfectly. Winning a game of ludo. Vibing instantly with a stranger. Making a baby smile. Clicking a picture that is just spot-on to post on your feed (even though that rarely happens). Eating cheesy fries. Realizing it's the weekend, after a hectic day. Dancing to the beats of your favorite song. The moment Starbucks spells your name correctly. Talking about cartoons, you watched in your childhood. Popping bubble wrap. Finding something you've been missing for a long time (and had forgotten if it even existed). Unexpected compliments. Turning the pillow over to feel its cool side. Coming across a good movie or TV show to watch (especially when you feel that you've watched everything that you could). Starry nights...

World through spectacles

Hello, my bespectacled fellow readers! Well yeah, that would have been something new to hear apart from "Chashmish" and "Ms./Mr. Four Eyes". So, for the ones who do not belong to any of the above categories, tighten your seat belts and hop on to this adventurous ride, because even though this stuff might not be relatable to you but it'll surely be entertaining.  We are possibly the last generation who woke up at 6 AM on a Sunday morning, just to enjoy our favorite cartoon shows on the television. So, the ones among us who have been wearing spectacles since an early age, are always taunted, "You must have watched a lot of television and that too while sitting very close to the screen." Yeah totally! We used to stick our eyes to the TV screens with the background music given by our parents saying, "Your eyes will be damaged! Then you'll have to wear large and heavy glasses." Why don't these people believe that we could have inherited th...

Photograph

We try to collect all our memories in the form of photographs. Are you ever amused by the power of photographs because of the way they speak to you? Just a look at them and "Whoosh!" It's quite a trip down memory lane. The protagonist in the movie "After" said, "I don't think asking a bunch of arbitrary questions about someone's past is really gonna tell you who they are." And my first reaction to this was, "But they will tell you who they used to be and how they have evolved over time. And that itself speaks loads." The photographs do this job flawlessly. You can tell so much about a person by just having a look at someone's picture. Maybe, this is the reason an employer expects to see your picture on your resum é. Most of the time, destiny speaks to us in the form of photographs. They remind us of that time when we were kids and how even little things like sitting in a potato basket gave us pleasure, the time when your dad made ...
