Deadlines
According to the Cambridge dictionary, a deadline is "a time or day by which something must be done". We often tend to overlook the word, "by" because for most of us a deadline means to get done with the submission just a minute before the specified time. But it looks like I am not that person. I'm someone who panics if I even approach the last day of the deadline. My college friends usually say, "Grow up! You are not in school anymore." And sometimes, I too think that maybe I should but that satisfaction of submitting an assignment way before the deadlines, gives you a sense of victory and automatically brings a smile on your face. But that is not why I'm writing this blog today. So, what is the point?
While we are amidst a deadly pandemic, our colleges want us to meet deadlines which is the worst possible thing they can do because keeping ourselves sane should be our topmost priority right now, but instead we are busy worrying about submitting assignments on time. There are hardly 0.03% of people in the college who actually put to try and complete the assignments using what was taught in class. Among the rest, some people try and find solutions over the internet. For the remaining of us, we go about asking all those in our contact list to send us the assignment solutions, as soon as they receive them. It's funny how our professors can be so naïve that they still don't know whether the students are submitting the assignments by actually doing it themselves or by copying.
No matter what I keep on ranting about, the college faculty won't understand the severity of this situation. See, just like you, even we are concerned about getting our degrees but that doesn't mean that we have to keep on ignoring our mental health all the time, just because you don't consider it important enough. The least you can do is to arrange meetings with counselors, not pressurize us about submitting assignments on time, and at least, not conduct viva evaluations every other week, just to make sure that we mug up stuff. So, the truth is that none of us are actually studying right now. Even when we have our evaluations, we either try to memorize the questions that have already been asked in other batches or we enter the viva evaluation with a firm determination that we don't care about scoring. My point here is that it does not make sense to enforce such evaluation schemes at this moment. It's better to ask all the college students to rest and take care of themselves right now and later on, all the college work can be fast-tracked. If only, this could happen.
It feels good to let this all out. After all, this is the story of every college student these days. Let me know if I missed out on anything XP.
